Glossy Box: Think Pink Box

This is a new concept box by Glossy Box available to its regular subscribers. The first box explores ageing and which products are best. Also 10p per box is donated to Breast Cancer Awareness. Originally I wasn't going to purchase this box but after seeing Kate's Review on Ghost Parties I was totally sold. The box features:

  • Mama Mio’s Clean Slate cleanser (30ml sample) - designed to provide you with a ten day trial and the softest skin ever (£22.50 for 150ml)

  •  REN’s Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask ( 15ml sample) - for tighter, more even and radiant skin - plus reduced fine lines (£30 for 50ml)

  • Ole Henriksen’s truth serum collagen booster (15ml sample) - for a shot of 5 types of Vitamin C to protect and perfect (£47 for 30ml)

  • Kosmea’s radiance 24/7 youth boost (3ml sample) - for a boost in anti-oxidants to hydrate and improve radiance (£29.95 for 20ml)

  •  Moroccanoil’s Treatment (25ml sample)- for oh-so-glossy locks to complement your oh-so-perfect skin (£30.45 for 100ml)

Overview

I really loved this box. All the products are something I'd use, and most are ones that I've been wanting to try, namely the REN Mask and the Ole Henriksen Serum. Also there is the Think Pink magazine which explains the products and also has useful beauty tips for women of different ages. I would recommend picking one of these up before they sell out. I can't wait to see more of these special edition boxes soon. Reviews on all products coming shortly.....

Lux Box: The Tale Of The Bad Beauty Box

A few months ago (August to be precise) I ordered the special edition Lux Box. I had not heard much from this beauty box company and thought I'd jump right in with their special edition box, with the intention of following up with a regular subscription. The boxes were set to be released early September but when it got to mid October I started to get worried and contacted the company. It took five emails and three weeks before I got one reply. I was informed that the boxes has been sent out early September but a lot of people had actually not been sent one. I thought this was really unprofessional, if the company knew it had not sent boxes they should have contacted buyers or offered a refund, I also think my email should have been addressed earlier on the matter. I was assured a new box would be one the way within the week. After another two weeks and no sign of a box I contacted the company again. Yet again it took sending a few emails before I got a reply. I was told this box must have "gone missing" in the post and another would be sent out that day. When another week and a half past and there was still no box, I emailed the company again and requested a refund if they could not supply the box. I sent four or five such emails before I got a response that another box would be sent and I was issued with a tracking number that according to Royal Mail was not even valid. Eventually I had to take it up with the fraud department at the bank and as soon as I did the box miraculously materialized  At that point I would have just been happy with a refund, it shouldn't take over three months and twenty emails to get what you have paid for. This has to be the WORST beauty box company on the market and I would advise others to stay clear from ordering their products.

This is what I received in the Special Edition Box

.Sensatinelle Flicktips
.Eldora False Eyelashes
.Green People Eco Eye Trio
.Balance Me Woner Eye Cream
.The Rosebud Perfume Co Mocha Rose Tube
.Delicious Teeth Tooth Cleanser
.Steam Cream

Seem as this was a "Limited Edition" box costing £20 plus P+P there isn't anything special about it. Although the box contains 7 items as opposed to the standard beauty box 5 I don't think it is worth double the price of there usual box. After doing some research I learnt that all the products included were used before in previous boxes, and I suspect due to overstock ended up in this box which would more would more aptly be called "the left overs box". To advertise it as a special box different from the standard Lux Box is really false advertising. It just seems they wanted more money from stuff they couldn't get rid of in the first place. In terms of the quality of products I wouldn't say they were particularly luxurious, and out of the seven I could only use four. All  three eye products will be something I will be reselling as I have no interest in them. I would have been more excited by the Balance Me Eye Cream, but this is about the sixth one I've received and I'm pretty sick of seeing Balance Me products. I've never tried any products from The Rosebud Perfume Co so will be interested to try the lip balm, although another lip balm isn't something that I need. The tooth paste is a bit of a weird addition to the box, I can't say I would have wanted this but tooth paste is always something that you use so I will try this out. The only product I was truly excited about was the Steamcream. This is a product I've wanted to try for a really long time. Plus this tin is limited edition  and has a really cute fifties style poodle design.

Based on the products Lux Box doesn't appeal to me, but even if I had loved them I would have unsubscribed due to the dishonesty of the company. I hope other people do not have to experience the same customer service as I did.

October Pure & Natural Box

In The Box

. LOV Organic Rose Herbal Tea Bags (6)
.JASON Bee Healthier Lip Balm Stick (Full Size)
.MOA The Green Balm (Sample)
. RITESSENS Exfoliant 125ml (Full Size)
.IROISIE BB Cream (2 Sachet Samples)

First Impressions

I thought this was another pleasing Box from Jolie Box. Every item was a new brand for me so it will be interesting to try the products. I can definitely use all of the products, and out of my other subscription boxes I'd say this was the best this month. I am most keen to try the Ritessehs Exfoliant, as I love facial exfoliators. It says it purifies the skin using Argan Oil which gently exfoliates and is suitable for all skin types. I preferred receiving the exfoliator over the other option the cleanser. Although I really don't need another lip balm and have gathered quite a stock from beauty boxes the Jason Balm will be great to just have in my handbag. It doesn't smell the best out of the lip-balms that I have but the combination of Bees Wax and Aloe Vera should be great for Winter chapped lips. I was really pleased the MOA Green Balm was included as it is something I've wanted to try for a few months. It is a multi purpose balm which is another great Winter product, and the small size means it can fit in my makeup bag. I've been wanting to get into BB creams but haven't had a chance to try any so the samples of Iroisie BB cream are also a welcome addition in the box as it will give me a taster of what they're like on my skin type. Last but not least the LOV Tea Bags. These are so pretty I don't want to use them! I only drink herbal tea so I will use these. I might keep the small box for when I travel next. Full reviews will be posted on my beauty blog (side link) shortly....

DIY Beauty- In The Box

.Anatomicals Don't Just Clean It Woman, Scrub It - Body Scrub 75ml Scrub
.Yves Rocher France Instant Anti-Wrinkle Moisturiser - Full Size 30ml/£18
.Skinetica Anti- Blemish Treatment 10ml Sample
.Green People Organic Self Tan 20ml Sample
.Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Black Platinum Full Size £6.99/14.7ml

First Impressions

This is the first Glossy Box I have received on time, and it was quite exciting to receive to Glossy Boxes within 2 days, however the contents was a little underwhelming this month. The box had a "DIY Pamper" theme however I'd hardly say that rang true with the products included. There was nothing indulgent about any of the products, and I wouldn't consider them to be luxurious in any way. I can find use for all of them except the fake tan which I would never use. The one I'm most excited about is the Yves Rocher France Instant Anti-Wrinkle Moisturiser as I like trying new anti ageing products. However with the sheer volume of anti ageing stuff I've been receiving from Glossy Box over the past few months it's starting to give me a complex about being old. This is the most expensive product in the box and kind of makes up for the other stuff.  The Skinetica Anti- Blemish Treatment is a product I wouldn't purchase if I saw it in the shops being on the cheap side, but I will happily try this sample out when I have a breakout to see if it is any good. Although I  always find the mini body washes great for travel I would have liked to have seen a more expensive one in the box; the Anatomicals range is not one I've really heard of before but I did notice a full size in the bargain section of the supermarket which doesn't give me much hope this will be that great. The last product the Sally Hansen polish is not something I'd usually be bothered about, not being a regular nail varnish wearer, but I like this shade and will be trying it out. Will review these products in full shortly...

Amarya Beauty Box- October

In The Box

The Balance Me Themed Box

.balance Me Wonder Eye Cream, 7ml

.balance Me Balancing Face Moisturiser, 20ml

.balance Me Citrus and Spice Hand and Body Wash, 55ml

.balance Me Citrus and Spice Hand and Body Lotion, 55ml

First Impressions

I have to admit I was very disappointed with this months Amarya Box. Although Balance Me products are OK I have received so many free samples from this company over the past few months and didn't want another box of them. The ones I have tried have been OK but not good enough for me to buy so I wouldn't have chose the contents of this box if I knew what was inside. Also it was very annoying to receive a box of only one brand and not a mix. This seems to be the general opinion across beauty blogs. This is only my second box from Amarya so I'm hoping next months box will be a lot better.

Glossy Box- September

I had a bit of a bad luck streak with my September Beauty Boxes, 4 different ones didn't turn up. I didn't even hear back from the other companies (Amitee & Lux), but after a few emails Glossy Box got back to me and admitted that my box just hadn't been sent out but they would send another. After last months disaster of receiving a damaged box this was very annoying, luckily my replacement arrived quickly. This is what I received in my "Rising Stars" box:

In The Box
. Lady GAGA Fame Fragrance- Sample
.RODIAL Glamoxy Snake Serum & 5 Minute Facial
.Balance Me: Wonder Eye Cream- Travel Size
.Olay Regenerist Wrinkle Relaxing Complex- Sample
. Sexy Hair- Spray & Play- Travel Size
First Impressions
My favourite part of this box was the actual box... the design is very pretty and fun. The contents was also pleasing, although it is a bit disappointing not to receive any full size products. The Lady GAGA fragrance is one I'm very interested to try as it is something I'd probably buy. Also the Sexy Hair range is one that I've been wanting to try for a few years so I was pleased to see this in the box. The Rodial range is not one that I've ever heard of before but the products look interesting and I will look forward to trying these. The olay wrinkle product is one that I keep hearing about so it will be interesting to try this to see if it is worth the hype. The only product I was not fussed on was the Balance Me eye cream which I have tried before; it's not bad but I keep receiving samples of it and would have liked something else I hadn't used before. Will be reviewing these soon....

Amarya Beauty Box- September

Amarya Beauty Box- September

I received my first Amarya Beauty Box this month so thought I'd do a brief review of the box.
Amarya is an Organic & Natural Beauty company that offers a monthly subscription service similar to Glossybox/ Jolie Box etc. The service costs just £10 peer month (plus £2.50 P&P) I decided to subscribe after reading some great reviews and was really pleased with my first box.....

In The Box
.Dr Hauschaka Face Care Kit ( worth £17.95)
Daily Face Care Kit includes: Cleansing Cream 10ml, Cleansing Milk 10ml, Facial Toner 10ml, Moisturising Day Cream 5g, Rose Day Cream 5g, Quince Day Cream 5g
. Herbfarmacy Lip Balm- Marshmellow & Vanilla (worth £4.50)
+ Voucher for 20% Off Both Brands
Overview
The items arrived in a large cardboard box, with no inner box, just a small leaflet to say what I had received. This was the only thing I found disappointing, I would have like the nice packaging & brochure like other boxes. In comparison to other boxes there were only 2 full sized items and not the usual 5, but these were both high end good quality products that I could use so this wasn't an issue for me. The total cost of the box is worth more than £20. The Dr Hauschka Face Care Kit is actually something I wanted to buy myself. The only disappointing thing was that the kit given was for normal, dry or sensitive skin, not the Oily Skin set I would have preferred to try. The box does come with a discount of the line though so I may purchase the Oily kit from the website. The Lipbalm is nothing I'm too excited about just because I seem to have a surplus at the moment. Although this one seems pretty nice (it smells like ice cream) so I'm sure I can make good use of it. Will give a full review of both products when I have a chance to test them properly.

.Twistband Hair Ties
. Dr Bragi Bio Marine Exfoliant- Extra Sample
First Impressions
After last months amazing box this month was always going to be hard to follow. Although it wasn't as good this month there were still some great products included. The one product I'm most looking forward to trying is the Balmi Lip Balm, which I've wanted to try for some time. The strawberry scent is amazing, and the compact cute packaging makes it a must have handbag essential. I'm also excited to try the Redken hair product as this is a line I've been interested in for a while, so this should give me a good idea of the quality of the brand. The smaller tube also makes this styling product great for travelling. The other product I'm looking forward to using is the Face Mask. Although this is a brand I've never heard of I'm a big lover of face masks, and the sachet size is also great for travelling. Although the Dr Bragi product looks interesting I'm not sure the tiny sachet samples will really give me a good idea of what it's like so that's a bit disappointing. The only thing I didn't really want was the hair ties. Not that there not useful, I just would have preferred an actual product. Also last month Jolie Box included a hair tie so I really didn't want to see another so soon.
Overall a pretty decent box with products that I can use.

Beauty Box Review: Jolie Box August

In The Box
.So Susan Cosmetics Lip Cushion (strawberry scented tinted lip balm)
.So Susan Cosmetics Wide Awake Face Palette
. Dr Bronner's Pure Castile Soap "Pillows"-
Citrus Orange, Unscented Baby Mild, 18-in-1 Peppermint.
. Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Dry Clean Revitalising Dry Shampoo
.Cut By Fred Leather Hair Styling Tie
First Impressions
I was extremely pleased with this months Jolie Box. I've had a problem receiving the last two boxes so this was my first one in a few months and was delighted with the contents... it's one of the best boxes I've received, each product is something I want. Dr Bronner's soap is something I've recently been trying to get a hold of, so I'll finally get to try it. So Susan is a line I've never actually heard of but the two products included are so nice and pretty I will definitely be looking into this brand. Also I was in need of a travel sized dry shampoo so this is another useful product. And last but not least the hair tie... always useful to have. I look forward to trying all these products.

Glossy Box: August

The International Superstar box

- 6 Best selling Products from around the globe

In the Box:
. Alessandro (Germany) - Pro White
. DHC (Japan) Deep Cleansing Oil
.The Vera Valentia palette (from Spain)
.Lipcote (from the UK)
.Broadway Nails (USA) imPress Press-On Manicure
.Glossybox Lipstick in Glossy Pink

First Impressions

The August Box is my most hated Glossy Box so far.

Things started off badly when I opened the box.... the info card was missing. Annoying yes, but I could find out about the products online so that wasn't too bad. Then I noticed the seal on my box had been broken and when I looked inside it was covered in filthy dust. Yuk! Then I noticed the palette included had a damaged box! After this even the best products couldn't have pleased me, but this selection is truly awful. I want to know if these are best selling products who's buying them?
In terms of the products the only two I can really use is the cleansing oil, which is a good size for me to travel with and the lipcote. But would I spend £12.99 on these two? No I would not.
The worst product is the green eyeshadow palette, it reminds me of those play makeup sets you had for children in the 80s, or something from Kath & Kim! I don't think I could even give this away. The nail stuff I'm sure is alright if you like nail stuff but it specifically says on my beauty profile NO NAIL samples, yet every month there they are. Other people get nail free boxes why can't I. The lipstick too I'm sure would be fine but I don't wear shades like this.
After discovering the poor and damaged condition of my box I contacted Glossy Box and asked if I sent the box back could I have a replacement or a refund. Because really why should I pay for a dirty damaged box, with the risk that it has already been opened. Someone did get back to me quite quickly asking if I could send photos, which I did. And the next day I was told I could have a replacement palette.... that I don't even want. Considering the overall damage and condition of the box I really should have been offered a full refund or a replacement. Tut Tut Glossy Box. After this I'm thinking of cancelling my subscription.....

Beauty Box Review: Latest In Beauty

I subscribe to a few beauty boxes and whilst browsing for a new one to try came across Latest In Beauty, a company that aims to give you a choice in what products you pick. They offer 3 services the Little Beauty Box, Luxury Samples & Themed Boxes. There is also a Private Sales option that allows members to access discounts on luxury high end products. I decided to try the Little Beauty Box & the Build Your Own Box (the current themed box was sold out unfortunately). I will do a full review of all the products I received when I've had a chance to test them properly, but for now I'll give a quick review of the boxes and the Latest In Beauty experience.

After signing up to Latest In Beauty you are taken to your profile page to answer general questions about your colouring, skin & hair type. This is to select products that may be of interest to you.

Little Beauty Box

Concept

"The Little Beauty Box is what Latest in Beauty is famous for. Usually featuring standard sample sizes like sachets and small vials, the beauty box allows you to try a product once or twice to get a feel for it. Based on the information you provide when you sign up, we recommend the products that we think are right for you. You can then select the exact free beauty samples you want to try from our recommendations in three categories: Skincare, Body & Hair and Makeup & Perfume. We'll package up your three chosen samples and post them out to you in our trademark pink beauty boxes once a month".

Basically you have 3 pages of product samples ( the number of selections varies with stock levels) and you can choose one sample per page. In theory the samples are linked to your profile answers. You then text a code to the selected number and this is how you are charged for the samples & post ( £1.50 plus your standard network charge).

This is what I received:

Packaging- Simple Card Board Box

Contents

.5x 1ml sachet samples of LAVERA Liposome Intensive Night Cream
-A rich, thick and luxurious moisturiser with the refreshing scent of wild rose.

. 2x 2ml sachets Elemental Herbology Cell Food repair serum
- An anti-ageing powerhouse that gives skin radiance, protection and a rebalanced complexion

. 2 x 1ml sachets L'Occitane Immortelle Divine Cream
- Voted the best 'Anti-Ageing Miracle Cream' by The Beauty Bible, this is the ultimate anti-ageing solution.

Review

The box arrived within about 4 working days which is pretty quick. The packaging was very simple, just a plain cardboard box with no inner packaging. There was no product information or a letter about the box. As stated all the samples were sachets. Although I got the choice of 9 products and chose these 3 they were not the best suited to my skin type (the choices are supposed to be matched to the beauty profile). I will do a full review on each product in a separate post. One of my sachets was actually missing; I've contacted customer service so will follow up with how they deal with that. The box was obviously cheap, and really £1.50 probably covered the cost of the post not including the products. Would I order this again? Yes and No.... if there was a particular set of products I wanted to try I would reorder the box. This is a good way to get hold of samples... not all companies give them away so it's an easy way to get them. This is not a subscription so you can pick and choose if you want a box. Some people think because it is sachet samples it's not worth the £1.50 but as I said that's probably just about covers the postage of the package. I was a bit disappointed there was no info about the products received, not all the sachets have full details instructions so I had to go back on line to see what they were for/ how to use.

**** Follow Up****

I contacted customer services about my missing product and received a response within less than 24 hours apologising, and was promised the missing product would be sent out immediately. I received a new box a few days later not only with the missing sample but two new ones plus a discount voucher of the product to use online. I was very impressed with how quickly my problem was dealt with and that a small compensation was made for the inconvenience. Thank you latest in beauty!

Summary

Pros

.The box is non subscription so you can order or not each month
. You can pick which samples you receive
. Cheap, the cost is really just postage
. Good way to get samples of products that may not usually be available
. If you are travelling small samples like this are ideal
. Pay by text makes it convenient & no fuss
. No subscription, so choice to order or not

Cons

. You do get choices but you can only choose one option from each page
. Choices offered may not be a true match to your beauty profile
. No product information included with box
. Packaging is basic
. Samples are sachets rather than mini products

LUXURY SAMPLES "Build Your Own Box"

"If you'd rather try products for a little longer before making up your mind, our new Luxury Samples are perfect. These larger samples (similar to 'travel size' bottles or tubes, providing enough product for at least a week's usage) give you a bit more time to make up your mind about a product, but still save you having to buy a full size straight away. These luxury samples work particularly well for high-end products - is it really worth splashing out on that £100 face cream? Try it for a week or so for a fraction of the cost, and you'll soon find out!"

The "build your own box" allows to pick travel sized samples of a larger selection of products (currently a choice of 23). You can pick one of each sample product. This allows you to create your own box, picking which samples you want to try. Prices are widely ranged from £1 to over £20 per sample. Most of the samples offered are at cheaper cost of what they are worth. The final cost will obviously vary on what or how many samples you pick, plus £2.95 shipping cost.

This is what I received:

. Angela Langford Normal/ Oily Skin Duo Pack (£3.50)

-5ml x Perfect Pores Serum

-3ml x Balanced and Beautiful Facial Oil

(came in pink pouch with info pack & 15% discount for A.L products)

. Cyrine Aromatherapie Acne Prone Skin Cream (£2.50- 5ml pot)

-This specially formulated natural cream helps your skin heal and reduces future occurrences of acne, without the drying effect of many treatments.

.L'Occitane Angelica Hydration Cream (£5- 15ml pot)
A fresh, silky and smooth day cream

.Melvita Skin Duo (£6)

-1 x 15ml Naturalift Moisturiser
-  1 x 35ml Rose Nectar Fresh Micellar Water

-Experience pure skin hydration with this floral and fresh duo

. Le Belle Natural Skincare Hero Duo ( £5)

-10ml x Anti-Ageing Daily Moisturiser
-10ml x Creamy Cleanser

Review

The box arrived very quickly within 3 days of ordering. The packaging was a plain box with only a letter to say thank you and to give a recap of what I'd ordered. This box too had no product information. The total cost of the box with packaging was £24.95 (£22 for products & £2.95 for post), which is pretty expensive (although the approx total cost of products included is £37.99... which makes a £13.99 saving). This box gives you the benefit of seeing the products available and you can order as many or few products as you wish, so it could have been cheaper. However if you compare this to Glossy Box who also offer 5 samples (some full size)  at £12.50 inc post it seems very expensive in comparison. Also other beauty boxes have quite fancy packaging & an information booklet to explain the contents which this does not. Would I buy again? Although this is more money than I would generally want to spend on sample boxes (other boxes are cheaper) I would use the service again if there were particular products I was interested in. The benefit of it being non subscription is that I can opt in or out of ordering. It would properly be best to set a budget though to keep cost reasonable. The products offered seem quite high end so it is a good way to try them, the larger sizes offered in this box means you get more of an experience of what they're like (each is supposed to last 1-2 weeks). Also the sizes offered are perfect travel sizes, a lot of these companies do not have travel sizes available on their own websites so this is a plus. If your looking for an economical beauty box option this is probably not for you and I'd recommend looking into the £10 range boxes. However if your quite picky about which products you try and do not want to be held to a subscription then this box may be a better option than other boxes on the market.

Summary

Pros

. A wide choice of samples to try
. A lot of high end products on offer
. You can choose what you want & how much you want
.Perfect sizes for travel
(a lot of the companies may not have their own travel sizes available)
.Samples last 1-2 weeks allowing you to get a feel of the product
. Quick order to door service
. No subscription, so choice of purchasing or not
 Cons
. Cost
- it can be expensive in comparison to same amount you'd get in another beauty box
 . No frills packaging
. No information about the products included
. Samples offered are not specifically tailored to your profile so you have to choose carefully
. No surprise in what you might get

The Themed Boxes

As I mentioned earlier there were no Themed Boxes available when I joined (they are limited quantity). But this is what they offer:

"Our themed boxes make it easy for you to try a selection of recommended luxury samples without any hassle.Throughout the year, we will put together a selection of products - these may be seasonal picks, products designed to cater for a specific beauty issue or event, or a branded box in conjunction with a retailer or organisation."

This is only a few examples of what boxes have been released by Latest In Beauty, but I think they look really good. Prices vary so you can choose a box which best suits your price range. They are also non subscription so you can buy if you want to. The only downside is they are limited supply so you need to be quick if you want to get your hands on one. You can see what's in them before you purchase the same as the other two boxes. I like the fact they are themed which makes them quite a fun choice. They seem to offer really great products. I'll definitely be on the look out for the next box and will follow up with a review.

Other services Last In Beauty offer

After you try a product you can review it,  Latest in Beauty will then add it to your "personal shop" section of your profile so you can click the link and purchase a full size version any time. They also offer a "private sales" section which offers large discounts on high end products. Also Last In Beauty has a Blog which not only informs you of new beauty news as well as discount codes on a range of products
